SR-56 Recommendations to Board of Supervisors from Pam Slater and Ron Roberts
For January 12, 2000 meeting

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

1600 PACIFIC HIGHWAY. ROOM 335, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA 92101-2470

MEETING DATE: JANUARY 12,2000
TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
SUBJECT:
STATUS OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF SR-56
SUMMARY

ISSUE/REFERENCE:
Update and report on the status of SR 56.

RECOMMENDATION(S):
CHAIRWOMAN SLATER AND SUPERVISOR ROBERTS:
Receive a report from the Department of Public Works regarding the status of the construction of SR 56 including information regarding scheduling, environmental permitting, contracts, costs and updates from SANDAG and Caltrans.

BACKGROUND
On January 23, 1996, the Board of Supervisors approved a "Cooperative Agreement Between City and County of San Diego Re: Construction of SR 56" (Agreement). On May 4, 1999, the County Board of Supervisors confirmed its commitment to make a significant financial contribution to the construction of State Route 56 (SR 56) and entered into a Cooperative Agreement with the City of San Diego and SANDAG.

As evidenced by its previous actions and its $20 million contribution to this project, the County of San Diego is a strong supporter of this important road project and has a financial stake in the completion of SR56. We are requesting that the Board of Supervisors receive a report from the Department of Public Works regarding the status of the construction of SR56.

Respectfully Submitted,
