About Pam Slater ...

Pam Slater was reelected to her second term as Third District Supervisor in March 1996, winning the primary outright with 75 percent of the vote. This year, she serves as Chairwoman of the County Board of Supervisors, making it the second time she has held this position. Previously, she served on the Encinitas City Council as Mayor and Councilwoman.

She has worked hard to protect the quality of life of the citizens in her district. She has reduced the county bureaucracy and helped to develop a balanced budget and a reserve fund of more than $24 million. Supervisor Slater has privatized some county departments and rewritten the rules regarding welfare to require recipients to stay clean and sober and find a job. She cut government waste while ensuring public safety by increasing Sheriff's protection and promoting the Regional 800 MHz emergency communications system. She established a public-private partnership to safeguard citizens against E. coli bacteria, which can cause food-borne illness. She has made the county run more effectively and cost-efficient, emphasizing cooperative, regional solutions to many problems, such as improving our neighborhood branch libraries, using community-oriented policing, reducing traffic congestion and building a new central animal shelter.

The Third District encompasses the communities from coastal Carlsbad to Mission Beach, and inland from Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Santa Fe to Tierrasanta and San Carlos.
